Combining unmatched experience and specialized skills across more than 40 industries and all business functions — underpinned by the world’s largest delivery network — Accenture works at the intersection of business and technology to help clients improve their performance and create sustainable value for their stakeholders. With 469,000 people serving clients in more than 120 countries, Accenture drives innovation to improve the way the world works and lives.
As a global organisation, Accenture believes it has a responsibility to engage proactively with the businesses and communities in which it works. We do this through inclusive procurement practices and our Enterprise and Supplier Development Programme (ESDP).
Our inclusive procurement practices create opportunities for qualifying enterprises to engage in commerce with our organisation and grow their businesses. This promotes our mutual success and creates long-term value for our clients and our communities. It also helps Accenture remain agile, disruptive and ahead of the market. As a global organisation we run similar types of programmes i.e. Diverse Supplier Development Programme’ s in 18 other countries.
Our ESDP also helps us create a more inclusive and empowered marketplace. It supports selected SME participants over a two-year period to grow their businesses. It uses a blended, six-pillar approach, leveraging Accenture’s capabilities, resources and talent to provide tailored support for each SME.
THE ACCENTURE ENTERPRISE AND SUPPLIER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME (ESDP) INCLUDES:
Executive training targets business owners, assisting them to be innovative in their thinking, agile in business decision making and to manage a high-performing business. We have partnered with Henley Business School Africa to provide all ESD beneficiaries with a customised Leaders Learn course and partnered with Lesedi Strategic Services to provide coaching to all our ESD beneficiaries and their employees. By incorporating these two elements we have taken training of our ESD beneficiaries to another level as we believe leaders never stop learning.
The SME is paired with a senior Accenture executive who guides the growth of the business and of the owner, imparting practical knowledge relating to daily operations.
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT:
A Business Health Assessment identifies what support an SME needs, it is then provided by Accenture capabilities— e.g., Technology, Digital, Operations, Strategy.
Payment of invoices less than 10 days after their submission assists SMEs with cash flow.
ACCESS TO MARKET:
Accenture provides commercial opportunities within its supply chain and those of its clients or may partner with the SME for delivery. Driven by business demand.
COLLABORATION FOR HIGH PERFORMANCE
Opportunities to collaborate with other SMEs and industry partners, and an alliance network for High Performance Delivered.
By incorporating diverse businesses into our supply chain, we gain access to innovative, responsive, sustainable and cost-competitive supply solutions for our clients. At the same time, our suppliers grow their representation and influence in their own markets. Since its pilot run in 2015 with seven SMEs, the ESDP has successfully graduated 18 businesses. Six of the seven businesses from our pilot programme remain Accenture suppliers with three of them now being in our top spend categories.
In 2018, we graduated 11 companies who were part of the 2016 ESDP intake and all have seen significant growth in their businesses achieving a combined 63% increase in revenue and 55% increase in new employment.
Of the companies that have participated on the programme, 100% are still operational and 60% are now Accenture suppliers.
Furthermore, Accenture South Africa is proud to announce they became the proud recipient of the Nation Builder Award at the Absa Business Day Supplier Development Awards, in recognition for the tangible impact that the company’s Enterprise and Supplier Development (ESD) programme has on small businesses, the ICT industry and the South African economy.
Now in its second year, the Absa Business Day Supplier Development Awards recognise businesses that are committed to building thriving, inclusive and transformed supply chains through the implementation of supplier development best practices and successful ESD initiatives that create lasting impact in the local economy.
“We are extremely proud to be recognised in the Nation Builder category, as it is arguably the most contested and prestigious award among the six categories. It also recognises the tangible impact of our ESD programme and affirms that Accenture remains at the forefront of social upliftment and empowerment in the country,” explains Zandile Njamela, Enterprise and Supplier Development lead for Accenture in Africa.
“At Accenture, we understand that our ultimate success is intricately linked to South Africa’s prosperity as a nation. We are, therefore, committed to unlocking South Africa’s abundance for all by building a sustainable economy that can address the needs of all citizens.”
