Celebrating 15 Years of Success

ZANENZA, a BEE Level 1 consultancy, this year is celebrating 15 years of business and successful partnerships across the private and public sectors. Founded in 2002 by Zandile Nzalo, an award winning businesswoman, ZANENZA provides a myriad of services including, marketing and communication, enterprise development, event management & décor hire as well as, fundraising.

“Achieving 15 years in a highly competitive environment is a major milestone for us. We are excited to be turning 15 this year and even though it wasn’t always easy, we remained steadfast; focused on our growth strategy and continued to put our clients first,” says Nzalo. ZANENZA operates from two offices located in Pretoria and Johannesburg and employs 20 dynamic young professionals. “We aim to increase our footprint both locally and into key African regions”, she adds.

As part of its growth plan, in 2014, ZANENZA partnered with PriceWaterhouse Coopers (PWC), a global firm, to project manage Guateng Tshepo 500 000 (T500k). Launched by the Premier of Gauteng, Mr David Makhura in 2014, the ambitious programme aims to empower 500 000 youth with skills and entrepreneurship training by 2018.

“I’ve had a keen interest in youth issues for as long as I can remember which is why in 2009, I established, FindYoFayah an NPO (Not for Profit Organistaion) designed to empower young people with skills training and entrepreneurial support. And so the decision to take on the T500k challenge and collaborate with PWC came naturally to us,” she concludes.

We are grateful for the support of our clients, associates and friends through the years, and we invite you to join us on the next leg of our journey into the future!

Q & A with Zandile Nzalo

  • What were your visions in 2002 and how have you met them or even surpassed those visions?

In 2002, I envisaged ZANENZA to be a successful multimedia company operating from a big building (with bold signage) somewhere in the Northern district of Johannesburg. I guess I have partly achieved that, because we have  grown from offering PR services to providing a holistic  communication solutions including; décor hire, event management, fundraising and enterprise development. Our offices are conveniently situated in Northlands Deco Park, Northriding  and large enough to cater for a showroom, warehousing and professional offices all in one.

That said, we still have a long way to grow in terms of harnessing our products and broadening our reach within SA and Africa.

  • In what different ways have you grown ZANENZA over the past 15 years?

Different is relative but, I suppose that due to the fact that we have diversified our offering to include non-traditional media services, such as fundraising for Viacom Group (MTV Africa Music Awards), Robben Island Museum etc, it means we are responsive to industry needs and agile enough to adapt to the ever changing business environment.

  • What do you see as the biggest accomplishments since your started in 2002?

I take pride in seeing some of our young employees develop into successful professionals, able to hold their own and prosper in their personal lives. Some of them move on to big corporates while others now occupy senior positions in the company. And we’ve had many such successes.

From a business perspective, I would say establishing FindYoFayah in 2009, an NPO that empowers young people with developmental skills and entrepreneurial support stands one as one of the key high lights in professional  career . A recent highlight – and probably the biggest in our company history – is our JV partnership with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC). PWC as we all know, is a globally recognised firm with an impeccable track record, and so we  are indeed honoured to be working with one of the world’s best.

  • What is the best piece of leadership advice you have received?

Someone once told me that a good leader surrounds her/himself  with even better people and is not afraid to lead from behind where necessary.

  • Where do you expect to go in the next 15 years?

I should be happily retired and chasing summers on cruises around the world! Locally, I would want to make a bigger contribution towards  youth development.

  • In what ways do you expect to grow?

I wish to grow to become a better person and to appreciate the smaller and more important things in life.

  • How do you stay motivated and what advice do you have for someone starting up?
  1. God has played a significant role in my life and he continues  to bless me daily.  When I’m down, I am reminded of his greatness and knowing just how possible he makes the impossible, is enough motivation  for me.
  1. My advice to any one starting a business; Always remember that Rome wasn’t built in a day and so you must be patient  with yourself; remain diligent and focused on your vision, learn from your mistakes and take pride in your milestones.
