SA makes 11 of the top tertiary learning institutions to study at next year
US News & World Report has released their list of the 2018 best global universities and 11 top South African learning institutes made the cut.
The report evaluated 1250 universities across 74 countries, which is the largest and most comprehensive assessment of universities globally. The rankings include an examination of the leaders in key academic subject. US News used a separate methodology to publish the top global universities in 22 subject areas.
The indicators are based on Web of Science data for the five-year period from 2011 to 2015. The Web of Science is an online research platform that covers more than 18 000 scholarly journals worldwide in the sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities.

On a ranking by subject basis, UCT featured in 14 subjects including several medical related courses and Space Science, where it ranks in the top 150 institutions globally.
The University of the Witwatersrand was placed second, scored in seven of the report’s 22 subjects, including Social Sciences and Public Health while it also scored favourably in several medical subjects.
Stellenbosch University ranked for agricultural related subjects in agricultural sciences (90th) and environment/ecology (125th), with the University of Pretoria scored well for Plant and Animal Science (63rd).
