We share fun and practical Easter ideas for every age
The shopping aisles have already been stocked with chocolate goodies from chocolate bunnies to Easter eggs in a myriad of sizes and you’re thinking to yourself “Easter time has crept up on me once again and I still need to plan a family gathering!”
If you’ve volunteered to host the Easter weekend gathering, whether it be a small intimate affair or a big bash, it can often lead to overspending and anxiety. We offer some tips on how to make the weekend enjoyable for both adults and children:
I know this is sometimes easier said than done, but try your best to shop at various supermarkets for specials on Easter eggs or hot-cross buns. You’ll be surprised how much you could save, especially if you’re buying goodies for a large group of children. One great tip to also remember is to keep an eye out for any left-over Easter stock as this will be cheaper and will help in keeping your pantry stocked for the children.
Bring and share
Start a family chat group for logistical purposes and find out who would like to bring what. A bring and share policy is a great way to keep costs down and gives family members a chance to prepare something new and fun for the family to taste. Who knows, maybe the new dish becomes an age-old recipe for future generations.
Mixed it up
We all love traditions and there’s nothing better than the smell of fresh hot-cross buns, but there’s always room to add a few snacks or dishes to the festivities. Make your Easter a truly South African one with a braai or indulge in some delicious finger foods or sweet treats. You could even take it one step further and arrange your very own ‘Come Dine With Me – Family Edition’ where each person has a chance to bring/cook a meal and family members judge their dish. There’s nothing like a bit of healthy competition in one’s life.
Arrange an Easter egg hunt
Children are always keen for a game and what better way to keep them entertained. Hide those delicious treats in and around your garden before your guests arrive to avoid unnecessary stress and questions from those young enquiring minds. Kids are kids and minor injuries may occur when you mix running and climbing with child-like excitement, make sure all the adults are in the vicinity during the hunt as this will re-assure the children and will be an opportunity to cheer them on during the search.
Whether you decide to stay at home or go away for the long weekend, we wish you a safe and Happy Easter.
