The Month of Munich

Oktoberfest? Not this month, but there are so many other reasons to pay the heart of Bavaria a visit by flying SAA.

As the temperatures begin to climb the rooftop bars and restaurants begins to spring into motion. T-shirts come off and FC Bayern kits come on, it’s an amazing time to take in the blue and white of Bavaria at its finest.

Marienplatz, the world-famous square, lights up as the Glockenspiel rings out over travellers and locals alike. They bustle between benches and umbrellas, all taking in the warmth and proudly Bavarian food, obviously paired with a pint or two of the finest Pils. And, that’s just the beginning.

As you move further out the city centre you’ll find Englischer Garden, one of the world’s largest inner city parks. Here the locals gather and picnic whenever an opportunity arises, as children hone their football skills around them.

Speaking football and sports, it’s the perfect time to catch one of the world’s best teams in action, FC Bayern Munich, live at the Allianz Arena or take a tour of their stadium and trophy cabinet. Just a stone throw away, those who enjoy a shot of adrenalin can tour the Olympiastadion in a truly unique fashion. You’ll be roped in safely as you climb the Northern Corner of the stadium, allowing you to view Munich in its grand scale and, on a clear day you’re able to see as far as the alps.

For those who’d prefer their feet planted firmly on the ground, the past royalty of Germany have made sure every step you take lands on extraordinary craftsmanship as you walk through the hallowed halls of Linderhof Palace and Neuschwanstein Castle, the two world famous heritage sites created for King Ludwig II. So graceful and statuesque is Neuschwanstein Castle that Walt Disney used its beauty as the inspiration behind the creation of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle in Disneyland.

Heading back into the city, it’s only fitting that you brake hard for a stop at BMW Welt, the iconic home and world-famous museum that’s a masterpiece of modern architecture and engineering – fitting of the brand itself. Visitors can explore every facet of what makes a BMW the vehicle it is today as they walk through exhibitions of past and present 4-wheeled legends.

As the sun goes down, it’s time to head back to the into Munich’s Old Town, because as the sun sets the city rises, so be sure to pay a visit a venue like the Luna Party at the Blue Spa Terrace for dinner and drinks beneath the full moon.

Why not start your adventure by flying SAA direct to Munich, because there’s so much more to explore.
