AVBOB is the largest mutual assurance society in Africa. Starting from humble beginnings in Bloemfontein in 1918, the organisation celebrated 100 years of growth and service to the nation on 15 August 2018. While remaining committed to its core values, AVBOB prides itself on being the pacesetter in the funeral industry. Proof of this is, amongst other things, its 300 branches nationwide, offering the entire spectrum of funeral-related products and services under one roof, making it a “one-stop shop” in the funeral industry. Even the funeral service business operating hours have expanded, so that AVBOB is now available 24/7, 365 days a year, for all their customers.
As a mutual, AVBOB has no external shareholders, which means surplus profits are shared directly with members in the form of special bonuses and free funeral benefits. AVBOB has over two million policyholders, currently covering approximately 6.1 million lives.
AVBOB’s ethos of caring also extends to its more than 8 000 staff members, as well as hundreds of business partners of which many are based in rural townships.
The AVBOB Group comprises three operating divisions: AVBOB Insurance, which offers a comprehensive range of funeral policies, AVBOB Funeral Service offering an affordable one-stop funeral service solution, and AVBOB Industries, which manufactures coffins, wreaths, and funeralware.
