Groot Constantia

About Groot Constantia

Groot Constantia is South Africa’s oldest wine producing estate and located 25 minutes from Cape Town’s CBD. Wine has been produced on the estate without interruption since 1685 and great pride is taken in the production of the world famous and award-winning “Grand Constance” which is a brand from the Napoleonic era.

During the Eighteenth century, wines produced in Groot Constantia’s Cloete Cellar received international acclaim for their superior quality and became known throughout the world as “Constantia Wyn (wine)”. Constantia Wyn began to fetch extremely high prices at well-attended auctions in many European cities and emperors and kings, such as Frederick the Great of Prussia, Napoleon Bonaparte and King Louis Philippe of France, all vied for their share.

Groot Constantia is the only wine estate in South Africa that has three white wines and three red wines featured in the SAWi Top 10 lists and the consistent top performance of Groot Constantia wines over the past 10 years has given the estate the coveted SAWi 2016 Top South African Wine Producer Award.

The unique Groot Constantia Visitors Route takes visitors to the original Manor House where visitors can purchase a ticket that provides full access to all of the offerings on the estate. This single ticket will allow admission to the museums, the famous Cloete Cellar and a self-guided cellar tour and tasting experience.

Groot Constantia – a proud member of Cape Town Big 7 tourist attractions – offer a beautiful setting with two restaurants. Groot Constantia is open 7 days a week including public holidays, (except Good Friday and Christmas Day).
