About Micropower Modulek

Micropower launches Solar Power Division

Micropower Modulek (Pty) Ltd, the Building and Factory Automation specialist, recently launched their Renewable Power Division.

The Managing Director of Micropower, Sagaran Nair, commented that the company was drawn into the industry by a combination of necessity and demand from existing customers. The company was located in Kya Sands, an Industrial area in Randburg and there were a number of disruptions to the power supply in the past two years. This played havoc with manufacturing schedules and in 2017, two of the technicians were tasked with developing a solution to the problem.

Management quickly realised that there was a dearth of experienced professionals in the Solar Industry and that although there was a proliferation of products, many of them were not designed for the South African climate or were simply of inferior quality. Many of the products from Europe and the United States are designed for the purpose of reducing costs as opposed to providing a power supply only in the event of black-outs. A survey was conducted amongst Micropower’s customers and the Solar Power Division was born.

Micropower now offers the supply, installation, and commissioning of Back-up Power Systems (Inverters, Battery Modules, Voltage Stabilisers, Uninterruptible Power Supplies, as well as Solar Power Systems).

The company has been appointed exclusive South African distributor for Waaree Energy Ltd of India. Waaree has India’s largest Solar PV Module manufacturing capacity of 1.5GW at its plants in Surat and Umbergaon in Gujarat. Waaree Energies is amongst the top players in India in providing EPC services, project development, rooftop solutions, and solar water pumps and also as an Independent Power Producer.

The Management of Waaree Technologies is committed to supporting its channel partners with Design and Consulting services for large projects.

A young, vibrant team of technicians remain committed to providing products and services in the Building Automation market. Micropower designs and manufactures Fan Coil Unit (FCU) and Variable Air Volume (VAV) Diffuser Controllers as well as diffusers for the HVAC market. The company also employs project teams that install Energy Monitoring Systems and HVAC Plant monitoring systems.

Micropower has been designing and manufacturing controls for the air-conditioning industry for over 20 years. We have a range of controllers that have evolved over this period that are attractive, robust and reliable. Our controllers have operated reliably at a number of installations for over 15 years thereby making them extremely cost-effective over the life-cycle.

Micropower Modulek (Pty) Ltd is a reputable manufacturer and supplier of HVAC and Access Control systems. Micropower’s staff and customers have installed over 5000 controllers in over 100 locations, at least 50 being premier locations. Micropower’s controllers have been exported to the USA and Australia.

Founded in 1985, Micropower currently designs and manufactures Building Management Systems and imports Control and Instrumentation products. These products are supplied to a broad range of industries. It also provides project management, installation, and commissioning services.

Micropower’s head office is in Petervale, Johannesburg, with regional distributors in Witbank, Secunda, Port Elizabeth, East London, Cape Town, and Kwa-Zulu Natal.

Micropower now joins a small group of control and instrumentation companies that are 100% black-owned. Micropower is a Level 1 BBBEE company.
